The nutritional value of meat alternatives – better than you thought

At the Albert Schweitzer Stiftung für unsere Mitwelt, we’ve published our first big study! The original title is »Ernährungsphysiologische Bewertung von konventionell und ökologisch erzeugten vegetarischen und veganen Fleisch- und Wurstalternativen«. This roughly translates into »A nutritional science review of conventional and organic vegetarian and vegan meat and sausage alternatives«.

As I’ve never eaten a ‘traditional’ meat one and this was my Shepherd’s Pie premiere, I can’t say if this one tastes similar or is even close – but it’s a great plant-based, savoury version that will warm you up and is easy to make. Autumn Spiced Butternut »Pumpkin« Tart

It’s autumn – leaves are falling (ok, I’m late with this post, in Berlin they’ve already fallen by now) and the shelves are full of seasonal veggies. In Germany, we don’t really distinguish between a squash and a pumpkin (no idea, why), so for my German readers, a butternut tart will definitely be just another pumpkin tart. For all the rest: Even though I’ve used butternut squash, this still tastes similiar to a ‘normal’ pumpkin bake. Continue reading
